PlantPal

Your plant buddy

Take a photo. Know the plant. Care for it right.

PlantPal identifies your plant from a photo, writes down the right care, reminds you to water and tells you what’s wrong when the leaves turn brown.

02Care and watering

Know when your plant is thirsty.

Every plant gets a watering interval, light, temperature, fertilizing and toxicity for cats, dogs and people. Tap “Watered now” to reset the plan, and PlantPal reminds you next time. It fertilizes only in the growing season and repots in spring.

03Plant check

Brown tips? PlantPal tells you why.

One photo is enough: PlantPal judges whether diseases, pests or care mistakes are involved, with finding, cause and confidence. The next check compares with the last one and tells you whether things got better.

  1. Finding: brown leaf tips
  2. Cause: dry heating air
  3. Next step: check again in two weeks

04Journal

Watch your plant grow.

Photos, date and a note: the new leaf, the fresh pot, the new spot. Check photos come in with their findings.

05Ask about the plant

Answers that know your plant.

About care, placement, pests or diseases. The answers know your plant and its latest check.

Can my spider plant go out on the balcony in summer?

Yes, ideally in partial shade. Direct midday sun burns the leaves, and below 10 °C bring it back inside.

06Plant sensor

Feel what’s going on in the pot.

With a Bluetooth sensor (Xiaomi Flower Care, also MiFlora) you see soil moisture, light, fertilizer and temperature right at the plant, with an ideal range and up to 30 days of history.

Notices when you watered

PlantPal spots the jump in moisture when you water and syncs sensors and readings with your other devices through iCloud. No sensor? Try everything with the demo sensor.

PlantPal Plus

Readings while you’re away

The PlantPal Bridge, a small ESP32 in a wall socket, reads your sensors every 5 minutes, even when you’re not home. You flash the firmware in your browser and set it up in the app.

07Share your collection

Water together, never twice.

Family or flatmates see the same plants and who watered last, even mixed with Android. For vacations there’s a guest pass that ends on its own.

08Balcony and garden

Let the weather help water.

For plants outside, PlantPal shows the weather where you are, without location access. Rain from 5 mm counts as watering, hot days bring the reminder forward, and a notification warns you before frost.

09iPhone, iPad and Mac

Your plants, everywhere.

A real Mac app with a sidebar, iPad with two columns, plus a watering widget. One purchase covers every device, and the collection syncs through iCloud.

12FAQ

Good to know.

How accurate are the results?

Identification, care tips and the plant check are estimates and don’t replace expert advice. With toxic plants and children or pets at home, ask a vet or poison control if in doubt.

Where do my photos go?

For identification and the plant check, the photo is sent through my server to Anthropic (Claude) and not stored by me. Everything else stays on your device and in your iCloud.

Which sensor do I need?

A Bluetooth sensor of the Xiaomi Flower Care (MiFlora) type. Zigbee sensors don’t work. For readings while you’re away you also need PlantPal Plus and an ESP32 board as a bridge.

Is PlantPal available for Android?

Yes, currently in a closed test on Google Play. Identification, care, watering plan, check, journal and sensor work just like on iPhone, and a shared collection works across both.

Which languages does the app support?

English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese. The app follows your device’s language.

How do I cancel PlantPal Plus?

In your Apple account settings under Subscriptions. Purchase, payment and cancellation go through Apple.

I have a problem. Who can help?

Write to me at support@bumberger.at, I usually reply within 1–2 business days. In the app, “Report a problem” prepares the email for you.

Your plants will thank you.
